DD 2010 Travel Hammock

DD 2010 Travel Hammock

DD Hammocks are a specialist group in designing and hammocks and have been trading since 2004. I do a lot of camping but it doesn’t take long before you get bored of your average tent (which is not ideal to carry about if I’m hiking anyway). I purchased a DD Pack during the Summer of 2009 which contained the 2009 edition of the travel hammock, a DD Tarp (tarpaulin), a DD Sleeper (silk sleeping bag liner), a DD T-Shirt, and of course the DD pack to put it in! All in all, a good buy for under £100!

The hammock is ideal for light-weight camping as it weighs no more then 900 grams. Individually, you can get the 2010 edition of the hammock alone for £48.00 which is reasonably priced. The hammock is strong and comes with a nylon under-layer with a mosquito net on top; this is ideal as you can zip yourself inside like a cocoon. You can also raise the netting away from your face (see picture) so that isn’t much of a concern; it’s also very difficult to fall out. The DD Travel Hammock has a triple purpose as it also functions as a light-weight ‘bivvy’ and a chair. There’s plenty of room for a Therm-a-Rest® for those of you who want additional comfort but the hammock is quite comfy without. To get in and out of the hammock there is a zip on one side (although the 2010 version has zips at both ends for added convenience).

You will need a tarpaulin to accompany the hammock if you’re going to use it in wet weather. The under-layer is 100% waterproof so you’ll wake up inside a river if you’re not careful. This is where the DD Tarp comes in handy! The DD Tarp is another item you’ll find in the DD Pack, but you can buy it separately for under £30.

To sum it up, the DD Travel hammock is ideal for those of you new to using hammocks, and is definitely a good value for money. The product is durable and long-lasting, and suitable for most weathers (except wind of course). It’s a lot comfier then sleeping in a tent and I’d certainly recommend it to others.

They also do discount for Scouts upon request. You can check out their website for further information.
